Rehabilitation is the process to regain full function following an injury. This involves restoring strength, flexibilty, endurance and power and is achieved through various exercises and drills. Rehabilitation and exercises are as important as the massage treatment following an injury, but so often is overlooked.
Chiltern Sports Massage can offer a programme that will regain pre-injury fitness levels. This is essential to ensure a full recovery and in order to prevent re-injuries.
There are 3 recognised stages of rehabilitation:
- Early stage: rehabilitation is gentle exercise allowing the damaged tissue to heal. This stage is often rushed and will result in poor quality healing and will be prone to re-injury.
- Mid stage: rehabilitation involves a progressive loading of the muscle/tendons/ligaments or bones. This helps develop tensile strength, which produces a healed tissue that will be to withstand the stresses and strains of everyday life and exercise.
- Late: the final stage of rehabilitation is where the tissue adapts and is stressed using functional exercises and drills to ensure the body is ready to return to everyday and sporting activities.
